Who we are

Zikra Armeda

Principal Psychologist & Director

I am an authentic and transparent psychologist who believes that therapy is about collaboration, authenticity and choice. I recognize the challenges in even taking the first step to trying therapy and therefore I do endeavour to create a space that is inviting, non-judgmental and most importantly, safe.

I have been working in both the public and private sectors providing trauma-informed therapeutic intervention for the past 8 years. I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals to better understand the impacts of trauma and general life challenges upon physiological, emotional and psychological wellbeing as well as collaboratively finding strategies to help navigate and manage these impacts.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, neurodiverse-affirming, strengths-based and client-centred, creating a safe and supportive space for meaningful healing. In this approach, I'm known to be honest and open as well as direct in my communication style (which my neurodiversity often assists with unintentionally).

Throughout my career I have worked with a diverse range of presentations.

Currently, I work with adult clients (18 y.o. +) on challenges such as; trauma, complex PTSD, military transitional challenges, depression, anxiety, substance use, developmental trauma, neurodiversity support and management, grief & loss, identity support, domestic and family violence, sexual violence and emotional dysregulation. I utilize a using a comprehensive biopsychosocio-cultural model to deliver contemporary, evidence-based interventions.

My framework as a somatic therapist (body-based), draws from a broad range of evidence-based practice and frameworks including; Polyvagal theory, Herman's trauma recovery model, Cultural Stress Theory, Minority Stress Theory, CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, Structural Dissociation Model and Parts-informed models. I will be completing EMDR training in 2026.

In previous roles, I have been largely based in Cairns with some roles inclusive of fortnightly travel to remote Indigenous communities across Cape York and the Gulf of Carpentaria to deliver therapeutic interventions to families and individuals across a range of complex trauma presentations.

In addition, I have worked as a clinician with current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families.

I have collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, including statutory authorities as well as non-government organizations to ensure service delivery is holistic and meets both client needs and organizational outcomes.
